I recently had the pleasure of trying some good ‘ol Mississippi moonshine. I’ve had moonshine before, but never like this. This stuff is basically liquid apple pie that comes in a mason jar. Once I took the lid off the mason jar, all I could smell was the pleasant aroma of a fresh-baked apple pie. Admittedly, this was not what I expected from an alcohol that was served in a mason jar. The curiosity was about to get the best of me so I had to give it a try.
This stuff was amazing. As the name implied, it tasted just like a fresh-baked apple pie. Not only could I taste the warm apple pie filling, but I could also taste the crust. It is a taste that I won’t soon forget. I know that once I leave the state and head back to the other side of the country I won’t be able to get it anywhere. With that in mind I am now on a mission to find a good authentic recipe for the stuff. I have found a few that use 190 proof everclear, apple juice, apple cider, and cinnamon sticks, but I want something a little more home-brewed. Let the search begin.

Just a quick update. I have found a few recipes that all use Everclear instead of Moonshine. I’ve found recipes for shine as well. I am going to the store sometime this week to get the Everclear and all the other necessary supplies. I’ll play around with a few different recipes and post up my favorite sometime in the coming weeks. Keep checking back, and by all means feel free to leave any suggestions.
